Blind Mechanics
Blind is a unique status effect that can affect both hunters and monsters. Hunters can use certain items and Endemic Life to inflict Blind on monsters. It is also possible for monsters to inflict Blind on both the hunter and other nearby monsters. It should be noted that if a hunter uses an item that inflicts Blind, nearby allies will not be affected.
When a hunter is inflicted with Blind, they will receive the Stun status effect and be unable to move for a certain amount of time. It is important to note that Blind is not the same as Stun. Blind simply inflicts Stun on hunters that are affected by it. Because of this, Blind can be thought of as an intermediary status effect that inflicts another status effect if the player becomes affected by it. A few major differences between Blind and Stun are their effects on monsters as well as the mechanic that determines when a monster can become inflicted by them. Stunning a monster will cause it to fall down and remain stationary for a certain amount of time, while Blinding a monster will cause it to flinch and enter a confused state. During this confused state, the monster will be unable to track the player, causing them to run around aimlessly performing random attacks in the hopes of hitting the player. Also, Stun can only be inflicted after surpassing a status threshold, however Blind does not have a status threshold, and will work every single time on both hunters and monsters.
It should be noted that although Blind does not have a status threshold associated with it, it does possess a tolerance threshold. This means that the more a monster is inflicted with Blind, the less and less effective its effects will be. So although Blind can be inflicted on a monster repeatedly, it will slowly build up a tolerance to its effects. However, it is impossible for a monster to become immune to Blind.
