How to Prevent Engulfing Attack

Engulfing Attack Mechanics
Monsters capable of using Engulfing Attacks often telegraph such attacks well in advance of actually using them through the use of specific animations and visual cues, giving the hunter ample time to react by getting out of range of the Engulfing Attack before it is ever used. Learning a specific monster's attack patterns will also help the hunter learn when the monster is about to use an Engulfing Attack, allowing the hunter to retreat safely out of range.
As briefly mentioned before, monsters usually have very long and obvious "windup animations" that telegraph when they are about to use an Engulfing Attack. If a monster enters its "windup animation", it will usually be unable to attack the hunter, leaving it completely vulnerable for a short amount of time. By learning to anticipate these wind-up animations, hunters can predict when the monster will be unable to attack them, allowing them to dish out a huge amount of damage to the monster during its "windup animation". If the hunter is able to deal enough damage to where the monster flinches or topples over during its windup animation, it will interrupt the animation and cancel the Engulfing Attack. However, this is a high-risk, high-reward way of preventing Engulfing Attacks, as in most cases it is impossible to guarantee that the hunter will be able to interrupt a monster's windup animation before it uses its Engulfing Attack.
