MH Rise Gunlance Build Guide

The Gunlance deals damage based on thrust attacks, firing blanks and explosive shells. It features a heavy shield to guard against incoming attacks. Strongest blocking ability in the game, matched only by its cousin, the Lance. It deals high range and counter attacks. The Gunlance's special move - Wyvern's Fire - fires off a huge explosion after charging up, and takes almost two minutes (110 seconds) to recharge. Since this weapon is reliant on Shells we can handpick the Skills needed accordingly according to its unique features, adjustments can be made if choosing to focus on Elemental Damage Output.

The Gunlance is one of the more bizarre weapon concepts, so it should be unsurprising to hear that it benefits from some pretty unconventional skills that aren't often seen with other weapons. Playstyles for the Gunlance typically vary between one of three depending on the type of Gunlance you are using, however each one is based on the same premise: deal lots of damage with lots of explosions. As a result, the Gunlance mostly benefits from skills that increase the amount of damage it can do with its explosive attacks, as well as provide just enough defensive capabilities to avoid getting blown up by the monster.

MH Rise Gunlance Elemental / Status or Raw Damage?

Gunlance definitely benefits from raw damage more than it does elemental/status. This is mostly due to the fact that most of the Gunlance's damage comes from its shelling attacks, which aren't affected by elements or status whatsoever. However, they are affected by a Gunlance's base attack power, which is why elemental/status is almost never used with Gunlances. Instead, raw damage builds are used to maximize the amount of damage done by your shelling attacks.

Fire Damage Gunlance Build

Araknalance Gunlance Weapon: This weapon has a 170 Attack and stands at a rarity 7 with a 25% Affinity, It is not the most damaging Gunlance type of weapon, but it deals fire damage dealing damage over time during battles. This will be especially great if players have previously acquired Rampage skills from other weapons that they are able to use during battle despite using the Araknalance gunlance without rampage skills. Rampage skills complement this weapon since it is one of the skills that provide extra buffs to damage of shells and this weapon in particular also comes with level 5 normal shelling. An obtainable skill with the Araknalance is the Wyvern Exploit Skill. Keep in mind that if you want the Wyvern Exploit, to select it before the Gunlance is upgraded into the Araknalance. This Skill will only be relevant when going against Wyvern-type Monsters, but will buff Shell damage. This could be interchanged with another skill depending on your preference since this Skill is very creature-specific.

To add on to this build with Armor, this set was chosen to further increase Affinity, paired with the Vaik Mail S or any other high Defense Armor-type of your preference. This is then complemented with the Bazelgeuse Set for the remaining Armor pieces. Underworld Petalace was added to increase overall stats, but this can be interchanged with other accessories. Other Jewels were added to fill in the rest of the spots for further enhancement. For higher damage, Critical and Sharp Deco type pieces are recommended.
