Special Investigations in Monster Hunter Rise are a new type of Quest that was introduced during the Sunbreak Expansion TU5 (Title Update 5). Special Investigations were added as a final difficulty level for Anomaly Investigations. Special Investigations, along with the TU5 update, were released on April 20th, 2023. They are difficult quests that are unlocked by completing a max-level quest (300). Hunters can expect to face the most difficult and powerful versions of the Monsters they've encountered during these quests. Players who participate and complete Special Investigations will be rewarded special Badges of Heroes rather than unlock new quests or item rewards.

About Special Investigations
Special Investigations should only be attempted by those who have true confidence in their strength. When a max level quest (300) is completed, the player who posted it is rewarded a Special Investigation (only once). These quests are extremely dangerous and difficult. Completing them will not yield any new quests or luxurious rewards, but you can earn a special Badge of Heroes if you complete a lot of these quests with different target monsters."
What are Anomaly Investigations?
Anomaly Investigations in Monster Hunter Rise is a type of Quest that expands upon the Anomaly Quests introduced with the Sunbreak Expansion. Special Investigations have been added during the TU5 (Title Update 5) as a final difficulty addition to Anomaly Investigations. The Anomaly Investigations system was added with Patch 11.0.1.0 released on August 10, 2022. While Anomaly Quests are special hunts against Monsters driven mad by the Qurio creatures encountered throughout the story, Anomaly Investigations take the same fundamentals, adding elements of increased difficulty, randomized quest parameters and brand-new crafting materials to create an endgame progression system for hunters to continually develop as they continue to take on bigger challenges.
How to Unlock Special Investigations MHR?
Special Investigations are a new quest type introduced for experienced hunters during TU5 that requires the Sunbreak Expansion. To unlock Special Investigations, players must first complete an Anomaly Investigations at level 300.
