Mizutsune is a Large Monster in Monster Hunter Rise (MHR or MHRise). Written as 泡狐龙/泡狐龍 in Chinese. Taking down the powerful Mizutsune in Monster Hunter Rise can be daunting for many hunters. However, with the right preparation and knowledge of the wyvern's attack patterns, it can easily be defeated. It is weak to Thunder, Dragon, and Ice damage while being resistant to Water and Fire. Its attacks include a Lunge attack, a Full Body Slam, a Claw Strike, and a Tail Slap. It can also emit a peculiar foam that covers its foes in immobilizing bubbles and use multiple water breath attacks that sweep across a wide area.

Large Monsters such as Mizutsune are hostile and are usually the primary objective of Hunts. They provide valuable Materials when defeated.

MH Rise Mizutsune Combat Info

A Mizutsune slicks itself up to do a sliding attack, but its sliding also makes it susceptible to failing over, providing an opening for attack. If you're hit by its bubbles, you can scrub them off by running around and dodging furiously, or using a Cleanser.

Quick Combat Tips

By following these tips and utilizing the right weapons and armours, you can easily defeat the formidable Mizutsune.

  • To defeat this creature, it is recommended to craft a Magnamalo weapon, equip the Royal Ludroth X Set for Water element resistance, back away during its flurry of bubbles, and dive in once they have dispersed. It is also essential to carry some Cleanser to get rid of the Bubbleblight.
  • When the monster roars, it is wise to put away your weapon and focus on attacking its head, tail, and claws. You should also be prepared to dodge its water jet attacks.
  • Mizutsune's head is its major weakpoint and frequently applying pressure at this spot will knock it down.
  • The Mizutsune is especially susceptible to knockdowns when slicked in its bubble substance while enraged. For this reason, it can be beneficial to be play aggressively when the monster enrages.
  • Mizutsune will frequently spew out bubbles of varying colors. All bubbles inflict the Bubble effect. One application is beneficial and improves a hunter's ability to dodge while reducing their stamina consumption. Getting hit a second time while the effect is active, however, will inflict the major Bubble effect, causing players to slip and slide uncontrollably when making sharp turns. When moving towards a bubble's path, consider popping it using a quick attack without much recovery time. Cleansers can also be used to remove the Bubble effect.
    • Pink bubbles also deal light damage and stagger players.
    • Green bubbles also provide light healing.
    • Red bubbles also provide a small damage bonus for a short duration.
  • Be wary of Mizutsune's large, sweeping and slamming tail attacks. A direct hit from these will temporarily disable a hunter's Wirebugs, preventing them from performing a Wirefall recovery. They also deal a lot of damage.
  • Mizutsune frequently uses a water jet attack that has a long reach and the monster often sweeps this across the battlefield. The jet has a very narrow hitbox and is best dodged through instead of away from. Its jet attacks also inflict the Waterblight status effect.

Mizutsune Attacks & Moveset

Lunge - Basic attack where Mizutsune raises its head slightly and then lunges forward, quickly biting at its target. It can perform two lunges in quick succession. Deals moderate damage and knocks hunters away. Dodge sideways at the last second to avoid the attack.

Full Body Slam - Mizutsune stands slightly tall on its hind legs while raising both forelegs, after about 2 seconds, it dives with the full weight of its body, sliding forwards a short distance. This move crushes anything in its path and has a very large hitbox. Move away immediately during the wind-up. Mizutsune will sometimes perform a much faster variation of this move where rotates 180 degrees after the body slam.

Claw Strike - Mizutsune stands sideways on its hind legs, winding up for a powerful claw strike by raising one foreleg up high behind its head. It then throws its entire body forward as it swipes at the hunter. This attack deals heavy damage and knocks players away. Dodge underneath its raised claw as soon as you see it posturing.

Tail Slap - Mizutsune jumps as it turns its rear to one side, slapping its tail at hunters in an uppercut motion. Dodge towards its head to avoid the attack. A clean hit can disable the hunter's Wirebugs temporarily.

Tail Slam - Mizutsune raises its lower body and swings its large tail in a downward motion from the side, slamming it heavily on the ground. Deals heavy damage and knocks players away. Similar to the tail slap, dodge towards its head. A clean hit can disable the hunter's Wirebugs temporarily.

Tail Sweep - Mizutsune spins 360 degrees while sweeping its large tail along the arc. This attack has a very large hitbox and is easiest to avoid by dodging backwards. A clean hit can disable the hunter's Wirebugs temporarily.

Diving Sweep - Mizutsune leaps back a good distance while making a whistling noise. It then leaps a great distance towards its target, slamming into them as it spins around. This attack deals massive damage and will knock players far away, disabling Wirebugs momentarily.

Jet Stream Attacks - Mizutsune often shoots a highly pressurized jet of water that deals heavy damage on direct hits. It has an extremely long range and the monster likes to sweep it across the battlefield. Its jet stream attacks come in various patterns:

  • Vertical Stream - Mizutsune raises its head up high and shoots its water jet downwards at the ground directly in front of it, slowly pointing it in an upwards vertical scoop. This variation is easily sidestepped but is often followed up with a lateral sweep.
  • Lateral Sweep - Mizutsune performs a slow horizontal sweep in a very wide arc. Unless you are behind the monster, this variation will likely cross your path. Because of the stream's very narrow hitbox, it is very easy to dodge through the attack as it passes by your position. This variation is frequently used right after the Vertical Stream.
  • Full Sweep - Mizutsune coils up and an audible cue can be heard from your hunter. It then begins a full 360 degree sweep with its jet stream. Use the same dodge maneuver as with the lateral sweep to avoid this attack.
  • Sliding Jet Stream - Mizutsune slides along the water's surface as it releases its powerful jet stream attack in a linear path in front of it. Again, dodge through the beam if you find yourself along its path.

Bubble Attacks - Mizutsune frequently shoots out bubbles from its body as it moves around the battlefield and attacks. Certain moves are used to shoot out bubbles directly:

  • Bubble Breath - Mizutsune raises its head and then sweeps it from right to left or vise versa, releasing 3 pink bubbles that move outward along the arc. It will often repeat this move in the opposite direction.
  • Giant Bubble Breath - Mizutsune leaps backwards and shoots a single giant pink bubble while in midair that deals moderate damage in a linear path in front of it. The bubble is identical to all other bubbles except for the larger hitbox and higher damage. It can be popped with regular attacks.
  • Reposition - Mizutsune jumps to a new location while spinning laterally, often above and over a hunter and expels several bubbles towards its original position.
  • Bubble Whirlpool - Mizutsune spins in place and releases many bubbles of varying colors that move in an orbit around the monster, spiraling outwards.
