Lanternbug is an Endemic Life creature in Monster Hunter Rise (MHR or MHRise). These animals and insects are found out in the field and can be captured by dedicated Hunters looking to research and learn about these habitats, and it can also be used just like items that can help a hunter during a hunting quest.

A glowing caterpillar that secretes a sticky fluid to attach leaves or wood to its body, making it look large. This body fluid is highly volatile, and applying shock to it will cause it to explode in self-defense. When worn, it detonates when struck, mitigating some damage to the wearer.

Lanternbug Information

Endemic Life in Monster Hunter Rise (MHR or MHRise) is placed inside the hunter's Helper Cage and it can be brought out in the field and used just like an item. Releasing a Hunting Helper will trigger certain actions and effects that can help hunters such as tracking down monsters, placing traps, and fighting monsters.

  • Endemic Life Effect: Secretes a highly volatile sticky fluid and applying shock to it will cause it to explode in self-defense. It detonates when struck, mitigating some damage to the wearer
  • Unlock Conditions: Available in corresponding locales.

Lanternbug Notes

  • It is somewhat a lesser version of the Vitality Mantle from Monster Hunter World, in that incoming damage is drastically reduced (or mitigated if it was low enough) and the Lanternbug absorbs the brunt of it - it is essentially "extra health" for the player to a degree.
  • Multiple Lanternbugs can be held at the same time and stack on top of one another, but are capped to 5 due to the player's Helper Cage being filled by them.
  • The explosions caused by the Lanternbug deal around the same damage as a small Barrel Bomb - varying by quest difficulty.
