Kinsect is a special equipment in Monster Hunter Rise (MHR or MHRise) that players choosing to use the Insect Glaive weapon can wield. It gives the user bonuses such as more damage, faster movement and better defense by absorbing essence from monsters. Kinsects also have their own attacks and damage types, that vary from Kinsect to Kinsect. Kinsects can be purchased from the blacksmith, and more powerful kinsects become available as you advance through the story.
Kinsect Information in MHR
Kinsect Essence
Kinsects can absorb 3 different types of essence from monsters by attacking them. When returned to the hunter, this confers bonuses depending on the essence color.
Red: Increases the hunter's attack power by changing their attack moves to more powerful versions. This is generally acquired from a monster's head or tail.
White: Increases the hunter's movement speed. This is generally acquired from a monster's wings or legs.
Orange: Increases the hunter's defense and knockback resistance. This is generally acquired from a monster's torso.
Acquiring all 3 essence buffs supercharges the hunter, providing them with the effects of a level 5 Earplugs skill.
Kinsect Stats
All Kinsects come with six stats that influence gameplay: Attack Type, Kinsect Type, Kinsect Bonus, Power, Speed and Heal
Attack Type
Severing or Blunt. This determines what kind of damage the Kinsect does when attacking the monster, following the standard Severing Damage and Blunt Damage rules.
Kinsect Type
Normal: A normal kinsect has no special behaviors. Only the starting kinsects have the normal type.
Assist: When the hunter is supercharged with all 3 essences, and their kinsect is perched on their arm, the kinsect will join the hunter in some of their attacks, increasing overall damage with them.
Speed: The kinsect will charge power while perched. When fully charged, the end of the Insect Glaive will glow blue - this charge causes the Kinsect's next attack to deal significantly increased damage.
Powder: When marking an enemy, the kinsect will attack it at regular intervals, creating clouds of dust as it does so. The Powder type can have the following sub-attributes: Blast, Poison, Paralysis, or Heal. This determines the effect of the dust. Blast, poison, and paralysis all cause their respective abnormal status "damage" in a small area of effect around the dust's location that affects a monster if it is in that radius. Heal causes a small area of effect heal to all players in the radius.
Kinsect Bonus
Each Kinsect also has a special Kinsect Bonus. Each bonus is unique to a specific kinsect type.
Bonus Heal (normal): The Kinsect will heal the hunter when delivering essence. This heal will occur even if the hunter already has that essence color gathered.
Dual Color (assist): The Kinsect will always gather 2 colors when attacking a monster. One of the colors will always be the same depending on the subtype. Defense means orange will always be one of the colors, Attack means red will always be one of the colors, and Speed means white will always be one of the colors.
Stamina Use Slowed (powder): The Kinsect uses less Stamina when deployed, extending the amount of time it can remain attacking.
Triple Up Time (speed): The supercharged state from having all 3 essences has its duration increased.
Fast Charge (speed): The Kinsect takes less time to become fully charged.
Charged Chain Attack (speed): The Kinsect makes a 3 hit-combo when first attacking the enemy.
Idle Stamina Recovery Up (powder): The Kinsect recovers stamina faster when perched.
Auto Attack Frequency Up (powder): The Kinsect attacks marked targets more frequently.
Boosted Powder Extract (assist): After dealing enough damage from its assist attacks, the Kinsect will leave behind an orange cloud. When the player steps into this cloud, they instantly gain each extract color, or extend the duration of their supercharge by 20 seconds if they were already supercharged. The orange cloud vanishes after being used by the hunter twice.
Powder Vortex (powder): While the Kinsect is deployed, you can initiate a powder vortex by pressing ZR + X + A. This will gather nearby powders, and once they converge, will explode dealing more damage the more powder was collected. This will also apply healing and any relevant status effects based on the type of powder.
Kinsect Charge (speed): The Kinsect will charge up while in the air, in addition to charging up while perched.
Kinsect Level
Depending on the Kinsect Level the Power, Speed and Heal attributes will vary. Kinsect Level is determined based on the equipped Insect Glaive.
Power: Increases the damage that the Kinsect deals with its attacks.
Speed: Increases how quickly the Kinsect moves. This can speed up how quickly you are able to gather essences from monsters.
Heal: Increases the stamina recovery of the Kinsect while it is recalled.
Kinsect Rarity & Unlocking New Kinsects
How do you get more Kinsects in MHR?
Getting Kinsects in Monster Hunter Rise has been made easier when compared to Monster Hunter World. Rather than having to upgrade each through different trees, all Kinsects are available for purchase at the Smithy. When you first start the game, you'll have the two Rarity 1 Kinsects available to you at the Weapon Box. Rarity 2 Kinsects are available at the Smithy after reaching Village or Hub Rank 3⭐, then Rarity 4 Kinsects are available after completing the Urgent Rampage Quest The Blue Apex. Rarity 7 Kinsects are only available after reaching Master Rank with the Sunbreak DLC.
Kinsect Rarity does not directly correspond with it's level or power in Monster Hunter Rise. Instead, as mentioned above, it depends on the Kinsect Level stated on each Insect Glaive, thus making all Kinsects viable at any Rank and Level. When choosing which Kinsect to use on hunts, players should instead focus on each Kinsect's Type, Attack Type, and Bonus provided to see which fits their playstyle better.
